The HBMS exists primarily to promote health and community service amongst retired and unemployed men in the north of the Hornsby Shire however we welcome anyone to join our Shed.
We want members to drop into the Shed and find a relaxed welcoming 'no pressure' atmosphere. Your involvement in Shed activities is up to you. Whether you simply want to drop in for a coffee and chat, work on you own projects, get involved with Shed and community projects, pottering in our bush garden, or helping out on the management committee.
Please note that the Shed is not for 'tradies' undertaking commercial activities.
Our shared values are:
Mateship – Achieving more as a team than the sum of our individual efforts, we enjoy each other’s company and go about everything in a spirit of convivial good humor.
Service – We undertake work for the benefit of those around us, with special emphasis on groups and individuals who may not be able to perform or afford the work themselves.
Health – We look after each other and promote a healthy lifestyle for senior men. In particular, we are aware of the toll that depression is wreaking on an ageing Australia. We aim to enrich lives with activities that engender physical, mental, emotional and spiritual health within ourselves, our friends and loved-ones.
Community – We are not an inward focused group, but reach out into our local area for work that may benefit the broader community. We think globally but act locally in order to achieve outcomes benefiting our society
